Vitaliy Hayduk is appointed secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC).
President Yushchenko has signed the relevant decree, Head of the President’s Secretariat Viktor Baloha reported at the briefing.
Volodymyr Horbulin, the Former acting NSDC secretary, noted he would further collaborate with the President on the issue.
When asked about top priority tasks to carry out, the newly-appointed secretary answered: “I’ve received none of the tasks apart from those stipulated by normative acts.”
Hayduk promises not to turn out his agency into the ‘political arena’, alleging: “I’ll hire only top professionals.”
As was earlier reported, Yuliya Tymoshenko and Yuriy Yekhanurov were the most desirable claimants for the NSDC secretary.
Vitaliy Hayduk, 49, in 1995 was one of the founders and a chairman of Donetsk-based Industrial Union of Donbass, a bisiness consortium linked to a coal and steel magnate Srehiy Taruta. In 2002-2003 he held the post of vice-prime minister in charge of fuel and energy in Yanukovych’s government.
