Records of Former Major of the State Security Service Melnychenko are of great importance in solving Gongadze case, Deputy Prosecutor General Renat Kuzmin reported in his interview with Interfax-Ukraine.
“According to one of the versions, Gongadze’s murder was planned to discredit then-President Kuchma and his eventual successor, Interior Minister Kravchenko. The aim was to demoralize the President and force him to resign at the same time disallowing a successor loyal to Kuchma to seize power,” reveals Mr.Kuzmin.
The Deputy Prosecutor General claims that attempts to prove other versions different from the one – Kuchma as a customer, Kravchenko as an organizer, and Pukach as an executor – produce a serious resistance of some political forces.
Mr.Kuzmin is surprised that Mr.Melnychenko has given neither originals of the records nor facilities he used to make them so far.
“I’m afraid that illegal installation of facilities for audio interception in Kuchma’s office will call Mr.Melnychenko’s actions into question,” remarks Mr.Kuzmin.
He adds that two investigators were dismissed from work, as they dragged out the case investigation.
“Too many people conceal the truth. Huge forces hamper to investigate the case and to reveal the rights,” resumes the Deputy Prosecutor General.
