Defense Minister of the Russian Federation Sergei Ivanov threatens with ‘negative consequences’ if Ukraine joins NATO.
“The problem is not in Russia’s attitude to sovereign right of Ukraine to choose main vectors of their security policy. It’s Ukrainian people and Ukrainian elite that will choose the form of cooperation with those structures,” said Ivanov in Kyiv.
“The problem is that the consequences of that move (NATO membership) will have negative impact on our countries’ relations,” added the Russian Minister.
Nevertheless Ukraine’s Defense Minister Anatoliy Hrytsenko is not going to deviate from the NATO course. And what is more, the normative-legal documents oblige him to pursue pro-NATO policy irregardless of his personal attitude on the matter, Ukraine's Minister resumed.
