“I won’t sign the petition until this Constitutional norm is observed”, he said in his broadcast appeal Saturday.
The president pointed out the newly elected MPs had to pay respect to the Fundamental Law
Yushchenko noted he would take an active part in the process of nomination both the Prime-Minister and those Ministers appointed directly by the president. “These offices are to be taken by decent professionals”, he said.
He underlined the work of the government and the prime minister had to be based on an efficient and clear action program. “The president, the parliament and the society will estimate the government performance by implementation of this program. I’ll approve the Premier’s nomination only when these conditions are observed”, Yushchenko said.
He also expressed hopes that the country would soon see a strong coalition united on the principles of democracy and European values.
“That will be the best marker of the parliament’s good start”, the president believes.
Yushchenko expressed his confidence that strong authorities needed strong opposition. According to him, those political forces that would oppose the coalition would have a continuous dialogue with the president in the form of Political Council.
