President Victor Yushchenko hopes EU will soon give a signal of possibility for Ukraine to enter this organization.
It was stated by the president on Thursday, during his speech at Vilnius conference – 2006 “Common vision of our neighborhood”, held in the capital of Lithuania.
“Let’s hope that already on this stage we’ll get an unambiguous signal from EU and our relationships will be based on the principles of openness and transparence”, he said.
"Ukraine can no longer be where it is now – in the zone of uncertainty between the East and the West”, President’s press service quotes him.
The President pointed out that new democratic regimes, contributing to strengthening of regional stability and development of economic cooperation, need active position of Europe and Euro-Atlantic community.
Yushchenko pointed out that fair and transparent parliamentary elections in Ukraine proved not just European level of democracy in our country, but also political maturity of the nation, its willingness to live within European standards.
The President considers NATO membership for Ukraine one of the strategic priorities of the national policy. “Already in the nearest future we hope for ratification of NATO Membership Action Plan. That will allow Ukraine to enter the last stage in the process of integration”, he said.
“The range of cooperation with NATO is being constantly broadened. We show our loyalty and solidarity, solving international problems”, Yushchenko pointed out.
He reminded that it was Ukrainian initiatives that led to productive negotiations concerning conflict in Pridnestrovya. Ukraine also drew attention of EU and the US to that matter.
