Minister of Fuel and Energy Yuri Boyko claims Gazpom that eight billion of gas shortage concerns the Russian side too.
Boyko proposed Gazprom CEO Olexiy Miller to oblige RosUkrEnergo to sell deficient gas at USD 95 per 1000 cubic meters, Kommersant-Ukrayina reports.
According to Gazprom representatives, during negotiations Boyko tried to involve the Russian-Ukrainian intermediary in providing Ukraine with natural gas necessary to maintain the gas transporting system and to guarantee the Russian gas exports to Europe.
Ukraine proposed two ways out of the situation: either to put pressure on Turkmenia to sell its gas at USD 75 per 1000 cubic meters or to oblige RosUkrEnegro and UkrHas-Energo to sell additional 8 milliard of gas from their underground gas storage (UGS) at USD 95.
RosUkrEnegro and UkrHas-Energo promised to pump into Ukrainian UGS more that 10 milliard cubic meters of gas by early October. They planned to keep it as a reserve in case Europe needed extra gas in winter.
Expert of R&J Investments Consulting Company Pavlo Kachur underlines that Russian monopolist has faced even more tough lobbyist of Ukrainian interests in the person of Boyko than before.
Gazprom expected to make Ukraine buy more expensive gas, yet Boyko hinted that if Ukraine’s UGS lacked gas, Russian customers in Europe would suffer.
