On Monday Prime-Minister Yanukovych presented Yuri Lustenko to the post of Interior Minister. The Minister, who kept the same office in Yekhanurov’s Cabinet, said: “I am ready to pursue the policy of the President, the Cabinet of Ministers and the Verkhovna Rada.”
At that he grinningly added, that he would try to keep fighting against violence and corruption: “I intend to perform the most important task – to save the society from criminals.”
During the presentation Yanukovych and Lutsenko mentioned their ‘longstanding terms’, underlying that now they should establish official relations.
At the same time Yanukovych recalled that he had talked to Lutsenko before the Cabinets taffing and they ‘reached understanding’.
During Lutsenko’s presentation both dignitaries were very serious and did not smile.
The event unexpectedly gathered lots of journalists, prompting Lutsenko to say: “They (journalists) were waiting at the entrance and we decided to let them in to demonstrate our openness.”
