The previous outcomes of the Parliament Investigative Commission on Gas chaired by the Socialist Andriy Derkach discovered that government’s slackening control over Naftohaz Ukrayiny NJSC and its affiliated companies had aggravated the situation in Ukraine’s gas market.
Over 2005-2006 the police disclosed that Naftohaz dignitaries violated the law, some of their actions may be interpreted as criminal.
For instance, in 2006 the State Budget encountered an enourmous pecuniary loss following the double payment for gas supplied by Petro Gaz FZA Company (United Arab Emirates). The Prosecutor General’s Office filed a suit against Naftohaz for abuse and no-return of currency revenues; the investigation is underway.
Derkach’s report also denounces that Naftohaz has breached the custom procedures when performing exports-imports operations. Naftohaz also has practically lost control over Ukraine’s gas and oil producing subsidiaries.
The Parliament of the previous convocation in persons of the Social Democratic Party of Ukraine (united) and the Communists suspected that the President’s brother, Petro Yushchenko was involved in shadow operations with Petro Gaz FZA. Yet they failed to clear up the matter.
