The Verkhovna Rada adopted the 2008 State Budget in the first reading.
The decision was supported by 243 MPs.
“We adopted the basic draft law and the Budget Committee’s summary. We also gave the Cabinet the possibility of receiving the documents and working over announced proposals,” said Verkhovna Rada Speaker Arseniy Yatsenyuk.
“The Cabinet should consider the proposals and submit the amended draft budget,” he added.
The Speaker called on MPs not to “fling themselves into populism” when trying to repeal the budget’s expenditures.
Mr. Yatsnyuk stressed that if the draft law rejects the demand to revise the budget in March, he personally will not vote for it.
After taking a recess MPs will adopt the budget in the second reading.
