Yanukovych Calls Yushchenko ‘a Populist’

Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych criticizes President Yushchenko’s initiatives to strip national deputies of unlimited parliamentary immunity.

The PM stated this at a press-conference in Poltava city.

He accused the President of launching an election campaign with populist slogans.

“This issue usually arises before elections. Who does it? Those who are feeding the people promises rather than performing deeds,” said Mr. Yanukovych.

He is certain that if MPs have enough courage they should solve the problem now or leave it for a new Parliament, if early elections take place.

Our Ukraine is speaking much about stripping MPs of the sixth Verkhovna Rada of parliamentary immunity. The President himself called future candidates for national deputies to publicly renounce immunity in a new Parliament.
